Most students find reading intimidating, so they usually skim or avoid reading altogether. This is unfortunate, as reading is a valuable skill that will help students excel in high school, college, and their future careers.
Here at Oxford, we will teach your child how to read more effectively, comprehend challenging texts, understand more advanced vocabulary, and, most importantly, learn to enjoy reading.
To practice these reading techniques, we will assign your child customized reading assignments that not only include classical literature and poetry, but also more enjoyable fiction and non-fiction of their choice.
Writing Skills
Students usually find writing grueling and confusing, so they have trouble writing a cohesive and well-thought-out paper. Similar to reading, writing is an essential skill that helps us communicate effectively in school and at work.
Here at Oxford, we will teach your child the foundations of writing. This includes forming focused thesis statements, developing well-connected topic sentences and body paragraphs, and learning to use literary analytical evidence to support their arguments. More than that, we will help to hone your student’s unique voice so that their writing flows.
To practice these writing techniques, we will assign your child writing exercises and offer them in-depth feedback on their writing.
Math Skills
Many students struggle with math, and distance learning has only exacerbated such struggles. Math will only get more challenging in college, so it is essential that students understand the basics of math before they leave high school.
At Oxford, we will instruct your student in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra II/trig, and pre-calculus. Our tutors will do more than provide a list of formulas to memorize: they will teach your student the concepts behind those formulas to ensure maximum understanding and lasting retention.
To strengthen students’ understanding of these math concepts, our instructors will provide homework and classwork.
